From poetry and fashion to sex, drugs & rock n’ roll: Get to know Jackie Apostel, our artist of the month.
I first heard SAD in my girlfriend’s car (they have the best playlists let’s admit it) and instantly fell in love with the raw vocals and different sounds. Jackie’s raspy, confident tone is something I’ve missed in female artists recently. Instantly distinguishable, dirty, sexy. After listening through the last album and checking her out we made a point to find out more. Our teams sent over 10 risky questions we wanted answered. We were not disappointed.
LEATHER, LUST & LOSING OUR MINDS
First off, wow. Congratulations on the release of BEAST. Does this song set the tone for what we should expect from B-Side?
Yes and no. The songs are extremely varied but it does set the tone for the character. Introduces an era.
How come you chose to do the album in 2 halves?
I’m gonna be honest with you there’s no deep meaning I just knew I was gonna be writing a lot more songs, and I didn’t wanna have to wait for a whole new project or eliminate tracks. This gave me the freedom to release some and then add more of whatever I please.
Any spoilers on the features? How did that come together?
I actually finished writing all the songs, then matched them up with people I thought would do justice to them and really add another level. Everyone outdid my expectations.
Your performance style is so exciting. How did you find your band?
I was never gonna be the choreographed dancing, solo performance type artist and since I started as a writer, it did take me a while to figure out what my live persona would be, until I realized its just myself. I found an incredibly talented group of people and we just have the best time with the songs. Also thinking about doing things in concert and with them and interpreting things definitely changed the direction of where the tracks were going.
Any more videos before the big release?
One more, not saying which though.
We absolutely cannot wait. Check out “BEAST.” – out April 16th on the link below.
