The “Microblading to Microshading Tour” put on by famed American beauty expert and social media star Joi Mebane just hit Miami and the sold-out conference was a hit!
Joi, who is the CEO behind The Look By Joi, has been one of America’s go-to experts and innovators in the microblading industry and during the pandemic, she created “The 60 Second Brow Kit” which helped those stuck at home get their brows done professionally. Now she travels the country teaching men and women how to open successful brow and microblading businesses.
We caught up with Joi while she was in town to learn more about her Florida takeover!
1. You recently took over Miami, Florida! Why did you just need to come here on your tour?
The beauty industry is going from cosmetics to cosmetics, meaning people want more semi-permanent and permanent solutions for beauty so they can have that ‘I woke up like this look.’ Miami is really known around the world for amazing and transformative cosmetic enhancements and semi-permanent beauty solutions. I brought my Microblading to Microshading Tour to Miami to teach people in this area how to capitalize on this growing industry.
2. How was your Miami experience overall / what did you get to explore when not teaching?
Miami was great. I went on the largest yacht in Miami and had a blast. I went to The Licking in South Beach, shopped at Bal Harbour Shops, hung out by the Skyviews Miami Observation Wheel, and of course, hit the beach!
3. How does the beauty industry compare here in Miami to other places you speak/teach at?
Like I said before, people from all over the world travel to Miami! The culture in Miami is so diverse. From American, Latino, Afro-Caribbean, Cuban – Miami is a melting pot for so many people and it’s amazing to experience.
4. What is your biggest advice to those wanting to go into the beauty industry and don’t know how to start?
First of all, let me start by saying the beauty industry is not going anywhere! People will always want to look and feel beautiful. There will always be a need for beauty products and services. So when you’re just starting out, know that there is plenty of room in the industry for you! Also, you need to find your niche. Don’t try to do everything! Narrow down what you are the best at, educate yourself, and position yourself as an expert in your niche.
5. What’s next for you in 2021 and when will you be back in town?
I am currently launching my mentorship program. It’s a 12-week program to help future Glam Executives start, market, and scale their beauty business. For me, it’s so important to share my knowledge with hard workers that want to learn and dominate in beauty. I’m also still traveling the country on my Microblading to Microshading Tour. I will definitely be back in Miami in December!
